History Day L.A. 2009 AWARDS

A. Carl and Regina Kobzi Polish American Award

Sponsored by: The Polish National Alliance

Category: Junior Group Exhibit

Criteria: This award is given to the project that celebrates the contributions of the people of Poland math, science, social science, or the arts.

Award prize: $100 cash

B. Autry National Center History of the American West Award

Sponsored by: Autry National Center

Category: Elementary Individual Poster

Criteria: Will be presented to a poster done by a 4^th or 5^th grader best representing “The Individual in History” in California history.

Award prize: Family membership to the Autry National Center and a gift basket (age appropriate) from the Museum Store.

C. Kudos for Kids Award

Category/Criteria: Any entry that deserves special recognition for excellence, effort, overcoming hardship, etc.

D. World in a Nutshell Award #1 (www.enisen.com)
Category: All
Criteria: Award is given to the best entry focusing on the Middle East or Islam.

Award prize: A collection of signed editions of the Nutshell Notes Books (incl. "Iran in a Nutshell," "Iraq in a Nutshell," "Islam in a Nutshell" etc.) and $100 cash prize.

E. World in a Nutshell Award #2 (www.worldinanutshell.com)
Category: Exhibits
Criteria: Award is given to the best use of primary sources.

Award prize: A collection of signed editions of the Nutshell Notes Books (incl. "Iran in a Nutshell," "Iraq in a Nutshell," "Islam in a Nutshell" etc.) and $100 cash prize.

This year various organizations and individuals are sponsoring Special Awards at History Day L.A. 2009. Students are eligible to apply for a Special Award listed below; however, only one nomination per individual/group is allowed. If you are interested in submitting a Special Award nomination, please submit this form by fax to Karen Lefler at (562) 401-5405 no later than Friday, January 30, 2009. All Special Awards will be presented at the History Day L.A. Award Ceremony on March 14, 2009.
